The Process Behind The Gentle Way

My Wife, Judy and I went to America and looked at the Alkaline Hydrolysis system, which seemed the best but needed work, because it had issues as well, harsh on the body and waisted 300 litres of water down the sewer every process.
When a body is buried the Alkalinity in the ground breaks down the body. We mimic this process by placing the body into a stainless-steel chamber and adding warm water and artificially raise the alkalinity of the water. The water is slowly moved around the body by a slow see saw effect for approximately 4 hours.
The product we use is potassium hydroxide, or better known as Lye a common ingredient in liquid soap.
If you put your hands in hot water with liquid soap for a long time the skin wrinkles, put your hands in hot water and concentrated lye for 4 hours and the skin will completely break down and just leave the bare bones.

The human body is built to naturally maintain a healthy balance of acidity and alkalinity. The lungs and kidneys play a key role in this process. A normal person’s pH level is 7.40 on a scale of 0 to 14, where 0 is the most acidic and 14 is the most basic. Adding lye raises the alkalinity of the water, adding PH down lowers the alkalinity of water back to 7.4. The water is then transfer it into our state-of-the-art water treatment plant, where we filter the water back clean, remove all the loved ones remains, dry and place them in an urn. We wanted to personalise the experience so much so that, your loved one’s favorite music can be played during the whole process, which takes around 4 to 5 hours. The amount of remains is approximately 30% more than a typical cremation.

The Gentle way has no odour, no fumes, no pollution no greenhouse gasses and is carbon neutral. The energy used for a cremator is equivalent to lighting up a football stadium whereas energy for the Gentle Way system is equivalent to lighting up a small office.

Now you have the option to personally lower the impact of emissions on the earth by the way you leave it. What will you choose?

What Is The Gentle Way Machine?

In our journey through life, there comes a time when we must confront the inevitable. Yet, as we face this reality, we also seek a gentle and compassionate way to bid farewell to our loved ones and to honour their journey beyond this world. A gentle end-of-life option, offering solace and reverence in the final transition.

The Gentle Way, also known as alkaline hydrolysis, stands as a testament to our evolving understanding of both life and death. Unlike traditional cremation methods, which involve intense heat and flames, water gently cradles the departed in a serene aqueous environment. This gentle process not only preserves the dignity of the departed but also honours our interconnectedness with the elements of nature. As the body is gently returned to its elemental form, it undergoes a peaceful transformation, becoming one with the sacred cycle of life and renewal. In this way, water embodies the essence of compassion and harmony, offering a serene departure from this world.

What Is The Gentle Way?Zero Emission Machine.

Leave no environmental impact when you are gone. Leave your family with no huge funeral expenses. Planning a funeral is never easy. On top of the pain of losing a loved one, you now have to worry about making extensive plans and a string of tough decisions.

One of the biggest things to consider after saying goodbye is whether the person will be buried or cremated. Even if we make this choice for ourselves, it’s rarely an enjoyable decision. We all want to make sure our loved one gets the perfect send-off, in accordance with their wishes, and we all want our own funerals to go the way we want, leaving a perfect legacy.

Do I Need to Buy A Coffin?

With The Gentle Way Process, No, you do not need to purchase a coffin, you can now rent one.

One of the main advantages of renting a casket is the cost savings. Funerals can be expensive, and purchasing a casket or coffin is one of the major expenses. By using The Gentle Way process, families can save a significant amount of money. This can be especially helpful for those who are on a tight budget or who want to allocate their funds towards other aspects of the funeral.

We offer a beautiful Tasmanian Blackwood casket as a rental at minimal cost, this way everyone has a beautiful casket without the huge expense.

Do I Still Get Ashes?

YES! However because the term "ashes" imposes fire,we don't call them ashes. We return your loved one as "remains", as no fire has been used and we find it a better term. The "remains" we provide back to you are the same consistancy as "ashes". We also return to you a plant of your choosing or a desert rose, with a part of your loved one inside. This way not only do you receive your loved ones "remains" you also receive a living vital presence as well.

Frequently Asked Questions.

There are many questions when it comes to Funerals themselves, let alone what type of funeral service you would like. We are here to provide an option for you and your family by providing an alternative to burial or cremation services.

Low cost, gentle, environmentally friendly, the list goes on to why The Gentle Way has been introduced, but ultimately the decision is for you and your family to decide on how you or your loved one, would like to leave this earth.

How Is It Better Than Burial or Cremation?

"The Gentle Way" is the most environmentally friendly and natural method of handling the end of life process, while also being the most affordable option for families to date.

Using natural elements like the sun (solar) and water (rain water) to complete the process, means there's no need for gas or diesel fuels to complete the cycle.

The Gentle Way could be completely self sustainable and wouldn't need connection to the grid or town water at all. Green, affordable and gentle.

Are There Gases Emitted During The Process?

We eliminate air emissions entirely, avoiding the production of methane gas and preventing any organic matter. It is completely pollution-free, with no toxic emissions or contribution to greenhouse gases.

Do I Get All My Ashes Back?

This is one of the most asked questions to date, even with cremations. However we don't call the ashes, well ashes. This is because The Gentle Way process doesn't use fire at any stage through the process.

Before a Gentle Way cycle can begin, the main chamber must be completely empty. What does that mean? It means that there is no possible way for the loved ones "remains" to be mixed with any other persons. On completion of the process, you will receive an urn just like you would, had you chosen cremation. However as we want to do our part for the environment, we will also hand you a plant in memory of your loved one.

Where Can I Find The Gentle Way?

More and more Funeral Homes are choosing the "Greener Alternative" to burial or cremation. These Funeral Homes have chosen The Gentle Way as a part of providing their families with a gentle option that also leaves no impact on the environment.

Over the coming months you will find that the list of funeral homes will increase and be a part of the change that is already in motion.
